So much for posting daily. I’ve been busy…
Still sober, day 20 today
We started fixing up our garden this weekend. A new hobby! Baby lettuce plants, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, parsley, mint. We will see which I kill first 🙂
I had a paper rejected from a journal today which made me want a drink, but only sort of. I don’t care too much about this paper so I wasn’t super upset, but I do know if the other paper I have submitted gets rejected I will be much more upset. Trying to plan ahead for that (I have so little faith in my research!).
I love growing… Nothing to plant in the UK at the moment apart from some autumn bulbs, and then bulbs for next year (tulips and albums).
I find gardening so restorative. Hope you find some calm in it too xx

This is why I love California! They say gardens are easier to grow in winter than summer here

Sounds fab… Yes, makes sense as I guess summer is too hot for certain plants to survive sometimes

Great going on your sober 20! And the planning ahead. Strategy is important. I used to have a ‘green thumb’- I should try that again. I found it very calming.

Good for you on day 20! I am right behind you at day 14. I also did a massive yard clean-up. Years of neglect had created a hell hole. I liked to drink while I gardened, hence, the neglect. It feels so good to be cleaning up myself and cleaning my surroundings. It is making me choke up a bit to think about all the time that neglected my life and paid so much more attention to escaping my life. Tender we must go. I cleared out years of debris in one fell swoop and paid too much money for men to show up with a truck and haul it away. I have clean slate to create the garden of my dreams. Let me just say, I have lived in this house since 1997. Almost 20 years!!!!!!! Gawd it is so utterly sad to think about. But. Head up. At least I get to do this next stage. Sober. Connected. Awake. Most gardening days would end up me passed out on a lawn chair. I got more done this weekend, than I have ever gotten done in 20 years. Yeah us! Yeah you. Keep going. Keep gardening.

Rejection sucks, it it isn’t a reflection of your worth.
Keep on going!

Congrats you! Found this beautiful quote for you… Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or power, but self-rejection. Success, popularity, and power can indeed present a great temptation, but their seductive quality often comes from the way they are part of the much larger temptation to self-rejection. When we have come to believe in the voices that call us worthless and unlovable, then success, popularity, and power are easily perceived as attractive solutions. The real trap, however, is self-rejection. As soon as someone accuses me or criticizes me, as soon as I am rejected, left alone, or abandoned, I find myself thinking, “Well, that proves once again that I am a nobody.” … [My dark side says,] I am no good… I deserve to be pushed aside, forgotten, rejected, and abandoned. Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life because it contradicts the sacred voice that calls us the “Beloved.” Being the Beloved constitutes the core truth of our existence.
